Montana CHW Training Programs

There are four trainings in Montana that meet MTCHWA’s recommended training standards and certify trainees as a Community Health Worker or Community Health Representative in Montana. If you have a training that is not listed here, please email us at admin@mtchwa.org

Montana Office of Rural Health & Area Health Education Center, MSU

  • Core CHW Training
  • Pathway to a Messenger
  • Spanish language module
  • Various add-on modules
    • Asthma, Diabetes, Historical Trauma, etc.

Center for Children, Families and Workforce Development, UM

  • Core CHW Training
and other trainings offered in coordination with employer and DPHHS programming

Indian Health Services Community Health Representative (CHR) Training

The CHR Basic Training, now referred to as the CHR 1: Foundations, provides the important base information as established by the National Council on CHW Core Consensus Standards.

I.H.S. also offers an Indian Country ECHO CHR Program Series, a monthly webinar series to support Indian Health Service, Tribal, and Urban Indian Community Health Representatives and community-based health workers.

SKC offers a Montana Community Health Worker Fundamentals Course, with remote and hybrid options, that provides 9 continuing education credits.
